The type/s of paint recommended are the most commonly used nowadays. Personal preference may swap enamel for acrylic, and vary the sheen levels (i.e. low sheen to semi-gloss) as preferred.

Walls

Living areas: Low sheen acrylic (or flat acrylic if the walls are far from perfect and scrubability is not required. Use of flat acrylic also illuminates most "side sheen" (light reflection), which might be your preference when deeper colours are used, or in a hallway where light reflection is greatest).
Wet Areas (WELL VENTILATED):Low sheen acrylic or semi-gloss acrylic.
Wet Areas (POORLY VENTILATED): Semi-gloss acrylic with "MOULD CONTROL" added, or low sheen enamel.

Ceilings

Living Areas: Flat acrylic, or Haymes Ceiling White. (The use of a flat (matt) finish is recommended on ceilings where light reflection can highlight imperfections, even on new ceilings). With PRESSED METAL ceilings, use of a semi gloss acrylic enhances the relief pattern considerably.
Wet Areas: If well ventilated (exhaust fan), use low sheen acrylic or semi-gloss acrylic. If poorly ventilated, apply semi gloss acrylic with "Mould Control" added, or low sheen enamel.
Note: Do not use water based flat paints in bathrooms or laundries. Allow at least three (3) days delay before showering in that room.

Skirting Boards, Architraves, Windows, Doors, Cupboards, Wardrobes

Gloss acrylic trim paint (60% gloss) (water based), or enamel (oil based) in whatever gloss level you prefer - high (90% gloss), semi-gloss (60%) or low sheen (30%).
Natural (Clear) Timber Finishes: HAYMES water based or turps based polyurethane, gloss or satin, or (for the purist) HAYMES French Polish (Shellac).
